Things You Never Knew About the Central Line

December 21, 2013

To be strictly accurate, this should be,”Things you Never Knew About the Places the Central Line Goes Through”.  It’s the London Underground Central Line, and there’s a book about it by Danny Dorling called “The 32 Stops” (One of a series on the various lines published by Penguin). What Dorling does is to use the trajectory of the line from West Ruislip, through the City (Bank Station, for example) to Woodford, to illustrate the shocking inequality that exists in Britain today.  It’s a useful local and specific addendum to the brilliant study by Wilkinson and Pickett “The Spirit Level”.  Question: which are the two most unequal countries in the world – on the bulk of indicators ?  Answer:  USA and UK.
